Kolkata: Brazilian tourist held in Airport for carrying cocaine capsules in Stomach

In Kolkata, A Brazilian national was detained at the airport by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for reportedly having cocaine capsules within his stomach. After being apprehended at the airport, the suspect, Paulo Cesar Pinheiro Bastos (31), reportedly complained of abdominal pain to the authorities. Multiple pellets were discovered inside of him after an X-ray. According to The Indian Express, a Brazilian arrived from Brazil via an aircraft that stopped in Dubai. Up to 44 capsules of cocaine (497gm) have been found.

He experienced frequent withdrawal symptoms and was agitated during his hospital stay. According to a representative, he demonstrated violent and aggressive behaviour while receiving treatment for addiction and substance misuse.


According to an NCB officer, the accused was released from the SSKM Hospital on August 26. A case has been filed under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Two Ugandan travellers were recently detained in May 2022 at the Delhi International Airport after cocaine worth Rs 28 crore was discovered concealed in their bellies, according to NDTV. The authorities said that the two women ingested pills that contained cocaine. Nearly 2 kilograms of cocaine was found.

She admitted to having 81 tablets in her stomach to the police. After that, she was transported to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where 0.891 kilogramme of cocaine was discovered inside of her. The price of the recovered medicine on the foreign market was Rs 13.6 crore.
