A man has been arrested for abusing an 7 year old girl, Will India be safe ever? Should women be blamed? Now, the focus has shifted to children. Should a girl child not allow to go and play in the park? Shouldn’t men be trained in schools regarding this? Does after a certain age men a loose sense of accountability and responsibility?
In the western suburb of Andheri, a 50-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly molesting his seven-year-old neighbor by promising her chocolate, according to police. According to an official, the accused, who works as a security guard, lived in the same shanty as the victim in the Andheri MIDC area and shared a balcony.
The accused had been molesting the girl for a few days when the victim’s mother caught him in the act on Monday and alerted the rest of her family, he said.
Senior inspector Jagdish Shinde said the MIDC police filed an FIR against the accused and arrested him under section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Something similar had happened in September as well. A 51-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl for the previous ten days.
The accused, according to the police, lives in the same neighborhood as the victim. To molest the girl, he used to offer her chocolates and money.
When the mother learned of the incident, she went straight to the police station to file a report.
Sections 354 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4, 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act have been filed against the accused.
Mumbai Police DCP S Chaitanya stated, “For several days, the accused had been molesting the young girl. We filed an FIR and arrested the accused as soon as the complainant came to us. The accused appears to be the girl’s next-door neighbor. The matter is still being investigated.”
