The 2022 Commonwealth Games, also referred to as Birmingham 2022 or the XXII Commonwealth Games, were an international multi-sport competition for Commonwealth of Nations participants.

At the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, which took place from July 28 to August 8, approximately 200 Indian athletes fought for medals across 16 different sports. Indian athletes placed third overall at the 2018 Gold Coast edition with 66 medals won, including 26 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze, behind hosts Australia and England. However, shooting was removed from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games schedule despite contributing 16 of the 66 medals at Gold Coast 2018.
At the Common Wealth Games 2022, Indian participants brought home 61 medals, including 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze. In Birmingham, Sanket Sargar became the first Indian to take home a medal when he won silver in the men’s 55 kg weightlifting competition. The first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the CWG in 2022 was Mirabai Chanu, while the first Indian man to place first at the Birmingham Olympics was Jeremy Lalrinnunga.
At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Monday, superstar P V Sindhu and rising sensation Lakshya Sen lived up to the hype by taking home gold medals in the singles badminton category for India. To add a CWG gold to her outstanding resume, Sindhu, an icon of Indian sport, easily defeated Michelle Li of Canada in a straight-game contest. The seventh-ranked player in the world, an Indian, upset her 13th-ranked opponent 21-15, 21-13, in front of a sizable audience at the NEC venue.
